The last time I saw her, the waning of summer.
I tried to explain,
The prospect of failure, the margin of error,
But we practiced our aim, dead-eyed and deranged,
Took one shot for love,

One shot
An open invitation, a coming celebration,
To the birth of a nation, lets go babe.

Good soldiers of fortune, consumed by the notion,
Do not die in vain,
I watched her proceeding to the train that was leaving,
She wore ashes in her braids, the summer's remains,
The fire of love,

Burned up last minute invitations, a sudden celebration,
Saw the pride of a nation slip away
So long babe

Unopened invitations, one final celebration,
Watched the death of a nation from the grave.

First time I saw her, she was the summer,
Seasons changed, goodbye babe,
Took one shot for love,
One shot
